Kammweg Section 06 "From Kühnhaide to Satzung"

This stage begins at the hikers' car park in Kühnhaide in the wildly romantic valley of the "Schwarze Pockau" and leads through pure natural landscape in the Schwarzwassertal nature reserve. On a hiking trail we follow the Green Ditch, an artificial water channel. Built in the 17th century, it was a mining masterpiece for its time. Over 8 km, it carries water with minimal current as a source of energy to power the mining technology in the former mines of Pobershau. After idyllic trail loops, the ridge trail leaves the valley on the Neubrückenweg (new bridge trail). In the forest in the direction of Kühnhaide, the "Wirtsgarten" moor and peat cutting area on the edge of the village of Kühnhaide is touched upon, where peat was still extracted until 1989. Here, cotton grass, Zitzensumpfsimse, whistling grass and ragberry thrive excellently. The latter is the basis of life for the high moorland yellowfinch, a butterfly species threatened with extinction. To preserve the habitat, rewetting measures began in 2004. Always along the edge of the forest with a view of the border village, a moorland area is crossed on a safe forest path in Herrenhaide. On the Stengelhaide moorland nature trail, which is a 2 km circular route, you can learn all about the formation and development of a typical upland moor in the Ore Mountains. After leaving the trail at the Zeuggraben, we walk through mixed forest to the crossing of Wildhäuser Straße and continue on the Poetenweg towards Reitzenhain. In the village, the trail leads along a beautiful meadow path, then along the Zeuggraben path towards the Reißigmühle. Take a short break at the lovingly restored site of the former Reißigmühle, which gave its name to the district, or after crossing under the B174 at a memorial stone to the local poet Anton Günther. Opposite the connecting road between Reitzenhain and Satzung, there is first a short forest path along the Neue Welt in the direction of Hirtstein, then continue in a straight line along the Auerhahnweg to the hikers' car park on the road between Steinbach and Satzung. Here you need to gather strength to climb the Hirtstein (890 m) on beautiful meadow paths through deciduous forest. A geotope and natural monument of European significance is the basalt outcrop in the form of a 15-metre fan or palm frond. Information boards reveal its extraordinary history of formation. When the weather is favourable, the Hirtstein offers a magnificent panoramic view of the Ore Mountains, sometimes even as far as the Monument to the Battle of the Nations in Leipzig. The hosts on the Hirtstein and in the centre of Satzung take care of our well-being. If you want to cover a longer distance, you can continue along the Grüner Graben at the start of the stage and experience the Schwarzwassertal valley in all its scenic facets: Rock formations, Katzenstein lookout point, nature conservation centre, Lamaranch, gastronomy/hotel and, once in the beautiful mountain village of Pobershau, numerous museums.
